Reading can take you anywhere. You can explore magical worlds, travel back in time, discover amazing facts, meet unforgettable characters and learn about people and places you may never have known about before.

There is a book out there for everyone – you just need to find yours!

Be a Reader

Being a reader isn’t just about being able to read the words on a page. Great readers think, wonder, imagine and ask questions.

When you read, you might:

  • laugh at something funny
  • learn an amazing new fact
  • discover a new word
  • imagine yourself as one of the characters
  • predict what might happen next
  • recommend a brilliant book to a friend
  • find a new favourite author!

It doesn’t matter whether you love funny stories, mysteries, adventures, comics, graphic novels, poetry, facts, sport, animals or something completely different. All reading counts!

Reading in School

You will have lots of opportunities to enjoy reading throughout your school week.

We read brilliant books together in class, explore different authors and genres, practise our reading skills and spend time enjoying books independently.

Your teachers and other adults in school will also read with you and help you become a more confident, fluent reader.

Our Reading Corners

Every classroom has its own Reading Corner filled with books for you to discover.

Our Class Librarians help to look after these spaces and make sure they are welcoming, organised and full of exciting books.

Not sure what to read next? Ask your teacher, a Class Librarian or a friend for a recommendation!

Reading at Home

Reading at home is a brilliant way to become an even stronger reader.

Try to read with an adult at least three times each week and ask them to sign your Reading Record. Remember to bring your reading book and Reading Record into school every day.

You can also read your own books, library books and eBooks. The more you read, the more words, stories and ideas you discover!

Keep reading regularly at home throughout the year and work towards earning your Gold Bookworm badge!

Every time you pick up a book, you are becoming a stronger reader.
