Welcome to the Carlton Junior Academy Reading Corner!

Reading can take you anywhere! You can travel through space or swim in the ocean or even go to a complete different world altogether.

Here is our virtual library. Simply explore the books below and click the book that inspires you.

When you click on a book, you will be taken to videos of stories or sections of novels (read by authors). We hope you will be inspired to go and find the book and read the rest for yourself!

Reading is magic: let’s see where these stories will take you…

Happy reading,

Mrs de Gilbert

Within our Remote Learning, our teachers read stories to us and shared books they enjoyed. We thought we’d capture them here on, in our Reading Corner, so we can continue to enjoy them!

If you want to see more, why not visit our YouTube Channel and enjoy the rest of the story!

Even More Reading!

Book Week

Each year, we undertake exciting activities part of ‘Book Week’. As well as donning amazing costumes during ‘World Book Day’, we also take part in book swaps, reading scavenger hunts, and reading quizzes.

Shakespeare Week

Each year, we take part in the amazing Shakespeare Week. During this week, each class explores a Shakespeare play and then writes stories, poetry and letters inspired by the characters in the play. We also take part in Shakespeare workshops where we act out scenes from the play or undertake dances inspired by the themes we’ve explored.

Carlton Library

At Carlton Junior Academy, we have strong links with our local library. Each term, our classes walk to the library to explore the books on offer, hear stories from the librarians and share books with each other. We love it!

Reading Journals

Each class has a ‘Reading Box’ and Reading Journal. Within these boxes, there are various pieces of stationery (pens, paints, tissue paper, glitter etc) for children to use to create amazing book reviews of their favourite stories. Each week, a child from each class is selected to take their book box home and create a page which they can then share with their peers to show their love of reading!
